Biographies:  Colyn Fisher

 

colyn fisherColyn Fisher has been playing the violin since the age of three, and the Scottish fiddle since the age of five. As a teenager he studied with a number of the great fiddle masters of Scotland, such as Ian Powrie, Angus Grant, & Alasdair Hardy, and in the USA with John Turner and Bonnie Rideout.

Colyn won the title of US-Scottish Open Fiddle Champion for 2005, having won the nationwide competition at the Houston Highland Games on May 14, 2005. In 1993 he won the National Scottish Fiddling championship (Jr. Div.)

He holds a Bachelor of Music Performance in Violin from Wheaton College, Illinois, and has recorded with various ensembles and genres from rock to jazz to classical and Celtic.

Currently he freelances with several symphony orchestras in Western Pennsylvania and teaches privately.
